2022 was the year ZetaChain set out to realize a new standard for blockchain interoperability. Namely, a public blockchain with Omnichain Smart Contracts support, which can access and manage assets and data on any chain — even non-smart capable chains like Bitcoin — without using bridges or wrapped tokens.

For developers, this means one place to build a dApp that works everywhere; for users, this means one wallet to experience all of crypto as if everything were on a single chain. Understandably, these whitepaper concepts at the start of the year were met with disbelief. But as the year progressed, the world saw these seemingly far-fetched notions become reality. In addition to achieving all major tech milestones, ZetaChain amassed one of the largest communities in web3.

As we approach the highly anticipated launch of ZetaChain Mainnet, we look back and reflect on how far we’ve come. Without further ado, here’s a look at our top achievements of the year!

Community

• 817,000+ person global community across Twitter and Discord! 1,400+ Contributors and 76 VIPs collectively generated 3,300 educational blogs, 900 videos, 10 in-person events, and incredible art across 11 creative contests.

• 15 person Ambassador Program created to support localized communication across 20 local languages & 11 official Twitter accounts.

Marketing & Partnerships

• Partnerships formed across major omnichain app use cases in identity, DAO governance, GameFi, and NFTs. A tier 1 crypto exchange is building an omnichain DEX on ZetaChain.

• The ZETA World Tour (community-led events) visited 10 countries and over 1,000+ ZetaChain community members from San Francisco and the Eiffel Tower in Paris to Tokyo, and so much more in between.

• 600 media publications and press releases covering ZetaChain.

• 20 articles plus many podcasts and ZetaEd threads written on ZetaChain.

Product

• Created ZetaLabs, a testing environment for the community to experience omnichain functionality. ZetaLabs includes a native asset cross-chain swap, ZETA faucet, built-in ZETA Points leaderboard, and a novel invite system. ZetaLabs has over 740k users (over 50k daily!).

• Created ZetaScan, a fully localized explorer of ZetaChain blockchain that brings transparency to both cross-chain and native zEVM omnichain smart contract transactions.

• Created ZetaDocs for developers to get started building omnichain dApps, including out-of-the-box smart contract examples across categories in DeFi and NFTs as well as core development and API documentation.

• Launched ZetaLearn, a place for users to learn how to natively swap assets on ZetaLabs.

• Rebranded all of these products to match one another including the zetachain.com marketing site

Blockchain Protocol

• Launched Troy (localnet), Sparta (devnet), Athens 1 and 2 (Testnets), achieving V1 of Omnichain Smart Contracts: zEVM and the ZRC-20 Token standard.

• Enabled the 1st ever Bitcoin Smart Contract, preparing DeFi and smart contracts to come to all important non-smart chains.

• Other testnet integrations enabled omnichain support for Ethereum, BSC, Polygon, Klaytn, and more.

• 10x increase in throughput with a substantial improvement in end-to-end CCTX settlement time and reliability.

Security/DevOps

• Led 4 smart contract audits by external security firms resulting in excellent scores and the overall protocol audit strategy leading up to mainnet.

• Designed a new DevSecOps development model to support the unique, cross-chain architecture of ZetaChain.

• Implemented endpoint protection & monitoring for our self-hosted validator nodes and team member workstations.

• Ran phishing attack simulations against all team members to test and improve ZetaChain’s security posture.
